Schipperkes are very smart loyal loving and friendly dogs – knee-high in stature – double coated (yes, they do shed twice a year) – cheerful playful amusing creatures to have in your household!

They like to have a lot of companionship – some will be loyal to just one family members, others will be family-loyal and encompass their entire “human” family.

A Schip is an active dog – and as such, needs to be kept entertained to a certain degree.

They do great with walks with family members – make excellent obedience and agility dogs if you wish to go into that kind of training with them.

Be certain you are prepared to give them a very safe yard to play in – as they have been known to dig themselves out of what was thought to be the most secure of environments! You will need to be on your guard for any possible unsecured areas where they may escape from.

A Schipperke on the loose is like a 2-year old child, it has been said: the world is their avenue to explore, and once they are out and on the loose, they aim to explore as much of the world as they possibly can – and as fast as they possibly can!

As far as grooming goes, they are very low maintenance – regular brushing will keep their coat nice and shiny and free from matting – regular trimming of nails is necessary as well.

A Schipperke in the household will mean you will NEVER have a dull home!
